The Brahmo Samaj was established by Raja ram mohan roy in Bengal in 1828.On 23rd January 1830 the Brahmo Samaj begin Functioning in new building in Kolkata.
Bengal at that time inspite of its educational progress & partial enlitement was under the curse of Sati , female infanticide & polygamy.Raja Ram Mohan Roy took a vow to end the evil custom of sati.Brahmo Samaj draws their inspiration from Upanishads.
Brahmo Samaj advocates the following :
1- MONOTHEISM :
meaning belief in one God.

2-AGAINST CASTE & BRAHMANIC SUPERMACY:

3-A CRUSADE AGAINST SATI & OTHER ABUSE OF WOMEN :

4-LIBERAL EDUCATION :
Brahmo Samaj advocated better atmosphere in schools where a student could come closer to the teacher.Raja Ram Mohan Roy was the was first Indian man to realize that the country needed educational reforms on modern lines.As an educationalist, he advocated the study of Eastern philosophy & western Science, simultaneously.He also realized the need formoral education that would help the youngsters form their character.
